New Academic Year

Monday, 3 Oct 2011

As the new academic year at Nottingham Trent University approaches, I'm preparing to teach on a number of courses. The first of these is the third-year module Queering the Modern--with its novels by Wilde, Gide, Mann, Lawrence and Barnes; poetry by Lorca, Crane, Pessoa, Cavafy and others; a film by Germaine Dulac and an opera by Poulenc--in which we examine the relationship between a freshly constituted 'homosexuality' and the development of Modernism. I also contribute to the teaching on Reading Gender and Sexuality, a general course on which I deliver lectures on Radclyffe Hall, Hemingway, Baldwin, Roth, Andrew Holleran and others. For second-year students, I contribute the section of Twentieth-Century Texts on Modernism, lecturing on the arts in general, as well as on Imagism, Woolf and Faulkner.
